History

The Tillsonburg Scout Association learned that Gordon Burgess Jackson held title to Lot Number One in Concession E, containing 95 acres of land in the then Township of Medora in the District of Muskoka, with direct access to Moon River ("Camp Jackson"). Mr. Jackson was not interested in selling this property until he learned the intention was to use the property for the boy scouts in Tillsonburg. The Tillsonburg Camp Committee worked with service organizations and other members of the Tillsonburg community to raise the necessary funds to purchase Camp Jackson from Mr. Jackson and then the property improvements. It was not until November 16, 1960 the lands to become known as Camp Jackson were transferred to community members.

Camp Jackson following its "closure" became involved in a legal dispute between members in Tillsonburg and Scouts Canada. On February 6, 2020 the Ontario Superior Court of Justice released its decision in the case of Tillsonburg Scout Association v Scouts Canada.[1] The court sided with Scouts Canada.[2]
