Scout Lanyards were used (pre 2011 uniform) to recognize those Scouts who completed different levels of Challenge Badges:
- Brown Lanyard is presented for earning any 6 Challenge Badges from at least 2 categories.
- Green Lanyard is presented for earning any 10 Challenge Badges from at least 4 categories.
- White Lanyard is presented for earning any 14 Challenge Badges from at least 6 categories.
The purpose of the lanyard was to recognize the number of badges earned in a manner visible without the sash. Since the new (2011) uniforms do not use sashes, all badges are always visible and the lanyards were deemed redundant.
Those still wearing the pre-2011 uniform are, of course, permitted to continue earning and wearing the lanyard.
