Cooking fires are needed when hiking and camping, and as with all scouting activities it is best to practice often before you need to use the fires. Cooking fires are functional and are quite different from formal campfires where we the focus is on entertainment.

  • Cleared space
  • Overhead branches - if there are large flames these can set fire to overhanging
  • Method of extinguishing
