Screening
From Scouts Canada Wiki
The Scouts Canada volunteer screening process is required of all Scouters, that is any volunteer acting in a volunteer or leadership role with younger youth members.
The latest rules are outlined in Volunteer Screening Policy Update - Updated September 2016.
Here is a summary of the steps required:
- Application (done using a paper form or via MyScouts)
- Interview (By two or more Scouters with appropriate training and experience)
- Reference Check (5 references to be provided, only 3 need respond)
- Police Records Check (PRC) - Not required for youth leadership positions Scouter-in-Training or Activity Leader
- Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) - Not required for youth leadership positions Scouter-in-Training or Activity Leader
- Wood Badge Part I common Module 1 (Once completed the volunteer can be invested as a Scouter, including interacting with youth and wearing the leader uniform. They remain "pending" in MyScouts and do count toward Ratio)
- Respect in Sport (External training provider cost is paid up front by applicant but reimbursed by Scouts Canada)
- Wood Badge Part I section specific Modules 2 through 5 (Required to be completed in first year to remain an active Scouter. Also required to count toward the required Ratio of Scouters to youth.)
